Just a Bit Catawampus

I finished LHN Lady Liberty.

All I have to do is sew up the end but, I wanted to blog about it.  

Pictures are a little shadowy...sorry about that

I used some of the antique buttons I got earlier this year.  

Backed them with a little felt.  

When i sewed it together, my fabric got a little catawampus 

I am not claiming to be an expert finisher by any stretch of the imagination.  

The pattern called for DMC and Classic Colorworks

The only Classic colorworks I had was Blacksmith Blue.

I used some of the new floss from Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe.

In order from the blue:  Dried Cinnamon, Faded Sampler Red (med), Custard Pudding, Dried Clover and Golden Chestnut.  

I still used DMC ecru and 950 for the little lady's skin.   

I must say Nancy's floss is very nice to work with!

Mine has been very busy with family in from out of town and a few late nights

I did take a two hour nap this afternoon.  

I was just pooped.

Finished the Flag of Glory Needle Book

 I finished the Chessie and Me Flag of Glory.  

I didn't do the pinkeep.  

I tried to find some wool like the picture with the pattern

 I have some homespun in my stash and I thought that matched well.  

I used some hemp for the scissor fob and on the needle book to attach to the button as a closure.  

 The back and the change in the saying and I added a few extra stars.

The original only had the ones in the corner.  

I really like stars so I added a few more.  

When my mom moved into the Assisted Living, I saved this from the rummage sale.  

It is a tray you put under a pie while baking.

It nearly was a fight with my younger sister over it.  

I am sure I bake way more pies than she does.  

I don't know if I have ever seen one of these lately.  

I didn't see one on the William Sonoma website.  

When we moved here about 18 years ago, my family decided we should do another family photo.  

My sister talked to a photographer who had done the one when my kids were baptised.  

He recommended this photographer.  

We were talking about this picture when we worked on my mom's memory book.  

It didn't make the cut.

This picture was the best one out of the bunch.

I'm the one with the glasses.  

My brother in law with the mustache really looks thrilled to be there.  

Katy, sitting on grandpa's lap looks like she is up to something, maybe slipped Ed something and that's why he's holding his throat.  

We later found out, when the kids graduated from High School. that this photographer was out of business and allegedly had a peep hole in the woman's changing room.  

I know, right.  

I am nearly done with Little Lady Liberty my Little House Needleworks.

Rogued it Again

Same pattern but, I didn't like the saying on the back, "I pledge allegiance to the flag>"

I graphed out E Pluribus Unum.  

I think I'm going to add a few more stars.

I really do like the pattern.  

We were talking about how Buster doesn't like to have his picture taken.

The vet tried to take his picture when he was in for his annual.  

If he doesn't know you are taking one, he doesn't turn away

I got a good one of him.  

 I got all the doodads on my BBD Hearts.  

My sewing is far from perfect unlike Faye on the Carolina Stitcher.  

 Just remember, I did dye my own fabric.  

I still love them even if they are a little off kilter.

Monica, Rogue Stitcher

I'm working on Chessie and Me, Flag of Glory Needle Book. 

Each strip on the flag is different.  

The bottom red strip is suppose to be a satin stitch with one thread.

That really didn't work well.

Could use two strands but, you know, satin stitches sometimes just don't look nice.

ROGUE!

I decided to really deviate from the pattern and do the red strips as a cross stitch.

 

Not so rogue.

The gold called for in the stars is Mustard Seed.

When I stitched it, it just looked more green than gold to me.

I'm replacing that with I think with Weeks Gold

The colors top to bottom.

GAST:  Gold Leaf

Grecian Gold

and 

Mustard Seed.

Finished the BBD Hearts but, I need to attach the doo-dads before I can post the finish.

I need some bronze chain so Katy will make me some.  

I have the charms I need.  

Maybe next time.  

Computer sideline tip.

You know how sometimes things just disappear on you when you are reach to the shift or enter key?

Next time you loose something, stop, don't go any further and 

Hit CTRL and Z at the same time.  

Things magically, yes magically reappear!

Good to have computer nerd kids!

I'm Going To Have So Much Fun!

I have wanted to get the set of primitive floss from Nancy at Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe.  

I have been working extra hours so I figured I earned a set.

AND IT CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY!!!!!

I don't have it displayed as well as she does but here it is!

The amount of floss is unbelievable! 

I have it broken down into color families....at least sort of.  

 Just gorgeous!

 Some lighter greens

 Brownish/green family

 Greens

And I got a free skein of a new group of colors.  Dried Wheat with the DMC conversion.  

Like I said, I'm going to have a lot of fun with this.
